Digital Skills
The program grew out of a conviction that technology has the power to bring about change for young people in our communities. Technology is deeply integrated in our in a daily Christian lives. Kenya Youth for Christ offers scholarships to young people, especially from low-income communities. This gives them the chance to partake in digital learning and acquire skills that improve their employability and create entrepreneurship opportunities. Since the program started in February 2021, the students have had the chance to study the following:
- Computer literacy and fundamental courses – computer basics, Microsoft Office basics, basic internet skills etc.
- Online jobs and work – blogging, transcribing, article writing, etc.
- Creativity and design – Adobe Creative Suite.
Skills learned in these courses have opened doors of opportunity to the volunteers. Most have been able to get jobs while learning, hence earning a living and others have acquired fundamental skills, that can help build their careers.
Phase one of the training program was completed successfully in December 2021. A second phase of the project is ongoing at our center in Kibera.
